It is 210 kilometers from the bandaranike international Airport and approximately 180 kilometers from Colombo ; the drive time on the A2 highway from Colombo to Wevurukannala is approximately 5 ½ hours.
THE ANCIENT WATER WELL-(Wevurukannala)
The ancient water well at the temple belongs to the “Andiyamana” type and is only one of the few “Andiyamana” type water wells that have been constructed outside the Jaffna peninsula.
THE TEMPLE-(Wevurukannala)
The Wevurukannala Temple dates back to the reign of king Rajadhi Rajasinghe ( 1782- 0798 ) .This Kandyan Period temple is made up of three Buddhist shrines; the oldest dating back over 250 years
THE TALLEST BUDDHA STATUE(Wevurukannala)
The cynosure of the Wevurukannala Raja Maha Viharaya is the gigantic statue of the Buddha,the tallest Buddha statue (160ft) in the country dating back over 250 years….
The height of the statue equals the ten storey building erected at the back ,the stairway of witch leads visitors to the Ahas Vehera located at the to of the statue ; here a small open area allows visitors to see the hundreds of smaller Buddha statues placed inside whilst enjoying the panoramic view of the countryside.
THE LARGEST CLOCK(Wevurukannala)
Amongst the important artifacts of the Temple Museum,the largest clock in the country takes pride of place.This amazing clock is powered by hanged weights and is believed to have been made in 1926 by a prisone ……

THE DAGOBA- (Wevurukannala)
